Mr. Ung Choi Kun and Mr. Wilson Lam’s exhibition in Macau showcases the city’s world heritage and charm through a combination of calligraphy and watercolor. The artists aim to contribute to Macau’s cultural soft power while presenting its unique allure and historical heritage. The exhibited works, limited to a maximum of five copies each, are digital prints that merge traditional calligraphy and watercolor. Mr. Ung Choi Kun and Mr. Wilson Lam are respected figures in their respective fields, with Mr. Wilson Lam receiving prestigious awards in the art community.

A-Ma Temple already existed before the city of Macao came into being. It consists of the Gate Pavilion, the Memorial Arch, the Prayer Hall, the Hall of Benevolence, the Hall of Guanyin, and Zhengjiao Chanlin (a Buddhist pavilion). The variety of pavilions dedicated to the worship of different deities in a single complex make A-Ma Temple an exemplary representation of Chinese culture inspired by Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism and multiple folk beliefs.

“Ya Po” or “Ah Po” means old woman, and because the Cantonese words “Ya” and “A” are homophones, many Cantonese names often have the words “Ya” and “A” interchangeable, and “Ya Po” means old woman. Yapo Well, which means “mountain spring” (lilau) in Portuguese, was once the main source of water in Macau, and close to the Inner Harbour, and was one of the earliest Portuguese settlements in Macau. Legend has it that a mother-in-law in the Ming Dynasty built a pond to store mountain springs in this place for residents to draw and drink, so people called the pool Yapo Well, which means “mountain spring” in Portuguese. Portuguese residential buildings are built along the hillside, and the buildings are relatively low; White facades with green shutters and red-tiled roofs.

The Port Authority Building, formerly known as the Moorish Barracks and commonly known as the Sailor Factory, is a masonry building with Arabic and Gothic architectural influences, located on a ramp on the side of A-Ma Hill. It was built in the thirteenth year of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty (1874) and was built by India at that time The police camp that comes to Macao can accommodate more than 200 officers and soldiers. In the 31st year of Guangxu (1905), it was converted into the office of the Port Authority and the Marine Police, and is now the office building of the Port Authority of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government.

The Cheng Family House, built in 1881, is the former residence of Zheng Guanying, a modern Chinese thinker. At the same time, it is also influenced by the Portuguese style and the Western classical style, and the treatment of the interior ceiling and the style of the door and window lintels are Western-style. The courtyard is antique, with redbud flowers planted by Zheng Guanying.

The church of San Lao Lenzao, whose Chinese name is Fengshun Hall, has the meaning of praying for “good wind and rain.” Founded in the 39th year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty (1560), it is one of the three ancient churches in Macao. The current scale system was formed in the 26th year of Daoguang (1846), and the exterior characteristics of the church building are based on the European classical style, with a baroque style. The left and right bell towers of the church stand side by side, one is a clock, which is used to tell the time; One is a bronze bell, which is used for the church to shake and vibrate during Mass. The roof of the church is a Chinese-style ziggurat tile, and there are antique chandeliers hanging in the church.

St. Joseph’s Convent and Church, also known as Little Samba Temple, was built by Jesuits in the sixth year of the Yongzheng Dynasty (1728). The Church of St. Joseph’s Seminary was built in the 11th year of Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty (1746), second only to St. Paul’s Church (the predecessor of the current Ruins of St. Paul’s) built by the Jesuits. The church was renovated in 1953 and is known for its Baroque style. After 1871, the Seminary became a municipal secondary school: the predecessor of the Lee Night High School, as the Governor’s Office of Macau sent government teachers to teach at the seminary. In 1893, after the establishment of the Lyceum de la Résiérale, it was transformed into a seminary specializing in theology, contributing to the missionary cause in Macao and even in China. Since its establishment, the convent has trained hundreds of Catholic clergy and contributed to the continuation of missionary work in Macao and even in the mainland.

Dom Pedro Domes, formerly known as the Peter V Theatre, is an ancient theatre located in Radro Pedro Pedro in Macau, and is recognized as the first Western-style theatre in China. The theatre was built in honour of King Peter V of Portugal and was built with only the main part, but in 1873 a colonnade, arcade and neoclassical triangular frieze were added to the façade of the entrance. Completed around 1889, the Lo Family House, also known as the Golden Jade Hall, is a valuable Chinese-style building in Macau as the residence of Lo Kau Kau, a businessman in the early 20th century (his private garden, Lo Lim Joo Park, is one of Macau’s most famous attractions). Built of green bricks, imitating the layout of the Xiguan Mansion in Guangzhou, the two-storey high house is one of the few remaining Chinese-style mansions in Macao, and is also a century-old cultural heritage of Macao. Inside, the interior is a mix of Chinese and Western decorative materials and techniques, including brick carvings, plaster sculptures, horizontal draping, hanging and oyster shell windows, as well as Western-style false ceilings, Manchurian windows and cast iron railings.

The Ho Tung Library (Portuguese: Biblioteca Sir Robert Ho Tung) is a garden-style library integrating history, culture and architecture, and was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2005 as part of the Historic Centre of Macao. It was originally a villa of He Dong, built in the 20th year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty (1894), and the whole building was yellow. The original owner was a Portuguese, and in the seventh year of the Republic of China (1918), it was purchased by Sir Ho Tung, a wealthy Hong Kong tycoon, as a villa to spend the summer in Macau. After his death, he donated the villa to the Macao Special Administrative Region Government as a public library, which was opened to the public in 1958, with the collection of ancient Chinese books as the feature of the collection.

Founded in 1591 by Spanish Austinian monks, St. Augustine’s Church was originally built in a very simple way, and the clergy covered the roof with palmetto leaves to protect them from the wind and rain. Whenever the strong wind blows, the palmetto leaves will fly with the wind, and the Chinese people look at it from afar, and feel that this scene is like a dragon’s whiskers erected, so they call the church “Longshu Temple”, and then it is called “Longsong Temple” in Cantonese.

The church was rebuilt in 1874 and formed its current size. St. Augustine’s Church is the first church in the history of Macau to preach in English and is an integral part of the Historic Centre of Macau, a World Heritage Site. The annual two-day parade of the Suffering Jesus statue at St. Augustine’s Church has a long history and is one of the most important festivals of the Catholic Church in Macau.

The Municipal Affairs Bureau of Macao is a non-governmental municipal organization in charge of civil affairs and municipal affairs, formerly known as the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau of Macao. Founded at the end of the 16th century, it was commonly known as Senado or City Hall, and was once used as the office of the Senado (also known as the Council) and municipal institutions. Due to natural damage, it was overhauled in 1940. Formerly used as an office building for municipal institutions, a museum, a post and telecommunications institution, a health institution, a court and a prison, the building is now home to a library with many stone carvings of historical value embedded in the walls, a conference room and library on the second floor, and a Portuguese-style garden, which is a representative building of Macao as a cultural meeting point between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.

Senado Square (Portuguese: Largo do Senado), commonly known as the “Fountain”, is one of the four major squares in Macau. Senado Square is connected to Banzhangtang Square in the north and Xinma Road in the south, and is narrow in the south and narrow in the north, forming a long and narrow triangle, which is a lively commercial and cultural activity area. Since the opening of the port, Senado Square has been the heart of Macau, where many festive celebrations are held. The Third Street Guild Hall was originally located in the bustling urban area of Macao, “Rong Ning Fang”, and there is a couplet at the door “Rong Ju Recreation Realm, Rather Enjoy the Year of Peace”. When the hall was first built, it was only a place for businessmen to discuss matters, in order to show the meaning of reverence, the hall set up the temple of the emperor and the palace of the wealth and the stars, and then the worshippers were crowded, everyone entered the house to worship, the function of the hall continued to deteriorate, and the worship of the gods became its main function, and later people called it “Guandi Temple”.

The building of the House of Mercy (Portuguese: Santa Casa da Misericórdia) was built in the middle of the 18th century, with the addition of arcades to the existing façade at the end of the 19th century in a neoclassical expression. The Church of Mercy is a brick and stone building, and the whole building is whitewashed except for the granite pillar base. The upper part of the main façade of the building is the outer corridor of the building, and the lower floor is a public passage with a width of 2 meters. The façade is built on 10 square granite column bases, which are connected by brick plinths. A pair of pilasters are provided on the plinths for decoration, and this coupon-and-column construction technique is repeated on the façade, giving the façade of the building a hollowed-out effect. In the past, the Ci Tong provided daily assistance to the old residents of Macao, and for the old residents who mainly focused on temple fair culture at that time, the Holy House of Mercy was also known as the Zhi Liang Temple.

The Ruins of St. Paul’s is the site of the front wall of the Church of the Mother of God, known as St. Paul’s Church. St. Paul’s Church is attached to St. Paul’s College. Founded in 1594 and ending in 1762, the college was the first Western-style university in the Far East. In 1835 a fire destroyed St. Paul’s College and its affiliated church, leaving only the front wall of the church, most of the foundations and the stone steps in front of the church. Since then, it has become the site of the world-famous St. Paul’s Church. The locals call it the Ruins of St. Paul’s because the front wall of the church resembles a traditional Chinese archway. This East-meets-West stone wall is unique among Catholic churches in the world.

The Nezha Temple, with a depth of 8.4 meters and a width of 4.51 meters, is a two-hall building with no patio in the middle, which is a rare example of a traditional Chinese temple, consisting mainly of an interconnected foyer and a main hall. The main hall is 5 meters deep, the four walls are built with green bricks, the surface of the green bricks is plastered and re-drawn on the brick line, the roof is the traditional hard mountain style, the ridge is 5 meters high, and the cornice is 3.4 meters high. The whole is mainly gray, except for a little grass tail decoration on the gable, it is generally not decorated. In front of the entrance of the main hall is the entrance hall of Nezha Temple, which is a mountain-style building, and part of the roof overlaps on the roof of the main hall. The foyer was surrounded by no walls for three weeks, only a black painted wooden fence. The weight of the entire roof is supported by two stone pillars on the front and wooden beams inserted into the gable of the main hall. The overall decoration of the building is simple.

The Fortress, located at the top of Persimmon Hill (Fortress Hill), is the central fort of Macao, with 42 cannons, which was built by Portugal in the 45th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty ~ the 6th year of the Apocalypse (1617 ~ 1626), named St. Paul’s Fort, and most of the residents of Macao are called the Fortress. Covering an area of about 10,000 square meters, it is an irregular quadrilateral, which was the core of Macao’s defense system at that time, forming a wide artillery defense network covering the east and west coasts.

The Church of St. Anthony, located opposite the Pigeon’s Nest Park in Macau, was built in 1558, completed in 1608, burned in 1809, burned again in 1874, and built in 1875. The Guia Lighthouse (formerly known as the Songshan Lighthouse) is a lighthouse located on the top of the Guia Hill in Macau, China, a part of the Guia Fort and one of the three major scenic spots in the Guia Hill. Macao’s position on the world map is based on the latitude and longitude coordinates of the Guia Lighthouse.

The Guia Lighthouse is white with yellow lines, the lighthouse building is a cylindrical structure with a diameter of 7 meters at the bottom and 5 meters at the top, and is divided into three floors with a spiral staircase connecting the vertical space. The lighthouse is 15 meters high, with giant spotlights at the top of the tower, which can reach a range of 16 nautical miles. Next to the lighthouse is the Church of Our Lady of the Snow, characteristic of a 17th-century Portuguese monastery. In 1992, the Guia Lighthouse was selected as one of the “Eight Scenic Views of Macao” and in 2005 it was inscribed on the World Heritage List as part of the Historic Centre of Macau.
