Macau Tower Launched the World's Highest Commercial Bungy Jump
Breaking Two Guinness World Records
The Father of Bungy Jumping, AJ Hackett, and popular artiste, Edison Chen, broke two Guinness World Records at the Macau Tower today. The Father of Bungy Jumping, Mr. AJ Hackett, broke his own Guinness World Record of "The Highest Bungy Jump from a Building" achieved in 1998. Mr. Edison Chen represented Macau Tower in the inaugural jump to bid for "The World's Highest Bungy Jump Facility".
Breaking Two Guinness World Records
The previous world record of "The Highest Bungy Jump from a Building" is held by AJ Hackett. The attempt was made in 1998 in New Zealand, from the Auckland Sky Tower, when AJ Hackett made a daring plunge of 180.1 metres. Today, AJ Hackett leapt from a platform located 233m high, and rebound at 34m aboveground. The total length of fall is approximately 199m, at a speed of up to 200km/h. The attempt will be listed in the Guinness World Records, surpassing the old record by 19m.
The second jump was performed by Edison Chen, marking the inaugural jump for the new adventure product at Macau Tower. Our guests will be jumping from the same platform at 233m high, but will rebound at 30m aboveground. The product will be enlisted as the "World's Highest Commercial Bungy Jump Facility". This is the second world record held by Macau Tower, with the first being the SkyJump, which was successfully enlisted as the "World's Highest Commercial Decelerator Descent".
The Beginning of Bungy Jump
Bungy Jump was originally invented by the Vanuatu from the Southern Pacific Islands, and was performed as a ritual celebrating adulthood. It was then introduced to England and the United States, and was finally made popular via New Zealand. In 1987, AJ Hackett made a "Jump to Fame" from the Eiffel Tower in Paris, and this marks the true beginning of modern bungy jumping. From then on, AJ Hackett popularized the sport to the world, and have since set up Bungy outlets in many countries.
AJ Hackett has been working with the
Shun Tak Group for over 4 years, and Macau Tower is
the only outlet in Greater China. Since the summer
of 2002, AJ Hackett has designed over 10 unique adventures
for the Macau Tower, which includes the Skywalk X,
Mast Climb and the Guinness World Record Bungy Jump,
bringing immense fun and excitement to locals and
tourists alike, offering them an alternative form
of entertainment to what Macau has to offer. It
is expected that adventure-seekers from over the world
will make the pilgrimage to Macau Tower and experience
this ultimate challenge!
