Sai Van Bridge

Macau’s First Two-Level Bridge

Completed in 2004, the Sai Van Bridge is one of the most distinctive crossings in Macau — and the only dual-deck bridge in the city. It connects the Macau Peninsula to Taipa Island, forming a vital link for commuters, tourists, and emergency services.

The bridge stretches approximately 2.2 kilometers across the Sai Van Lake and Praia Grande Bay, offering scenic views of the Macau Tower, the Nam Van area, and the open sea.

Two Levels, Two Purposes

– Upper Deck: Open to public traffic and provides beautiful panoramic views, especially at sunrise or sunset.

– Lower Deck: Reserved for use during typhoons or extreme weather conditions, allowing Macau to remain connected when upper-level bridges are closed for safety.

This two-tiered structure makes the Sai Van Bridge not just practical, but also symbolic of Macau’s resilience and smart urban planning.

Iconic Views

When viewed from above — like from the Macau Tower — the bridge frames the skyline and reflects the blend of modern engineering and natural beauty that defines Macau’s waterfront.

It also plays a major role in daily life, serving thousands of vehicles a day and offering quick access to:

– The Macau International Airport

– Cotai entertainment zone

– Government offices and historical landmarks in the city center
