6th November, 2004 Macau
Macau Tower
Convention & Entertainment Centre
Launching of Sky Gallery
Featuring "Bird's Eye View of Macau 1989-2004"
Since its opening, Macau Tower has remained a strong
supporter for community events, bringing cultural
and entertainment programs to Macau residents and
enriching the diversity of local leisure activities.
Following this vision, the Tower created and unveiled
the Sky Gallery today along with its first
exhibition titled "Bird's- Eye View of Macau 1989-2004".
The Changing Faces of Macau
Sky Gallery is located within the Observation Lounge
at over 200m aboveground that gives visitors a holistic
view of the city. The first exhibition, "Bird's Eye
View of Macau 1989-2004", is a long term display of
valuable aerial photos taken over the past 15 years
that capture the changing faces of Macau. The collection
includes images of important infrastructures, city
landscape and tourist attractions etc, illustrating
a remarkable contrast between the past and the present
as a result of city development and its thriving economy.
After browsing through the collection, visitors may
draw instant comparison with contemporary Macau through
the full-height glass walls of the Observation Lounge.
Bearing Witness to Memorable Moments
Chairman of Macau Tower, Ms. Pansy Ho explained during
today's ceremony: "The objective is to share with
all residents and visitors the unique history and
heritage of our city. Sky Gallery is charged with
the mission to stage different exhibitions and contests,
bearing witness to these memorable moments we all
contribute to and take pride in."
Photo Contest to Capture Macau's 5th Handover Anniversary
The upcoming December will be an exciting time for
professional photographers, amateur and enthusiasts
alike. With Macau SAR 5th Handover Anniversary, the
city is ready to rejoice in many different ways, and
it is the perfect time to capture these extraordinary
occasions through camera lenses. Coinciding with the
occasion is the Year of France Celebration, and as
a tribute to the two important events, Macau Tower
has invited world renowned pyrotechnic expert, Groupe
F, to choreograph an unprecedented extravaganza of
light and fire demonstration that will light up the
mid-December sky. In addition to other celebrations
including the inauguration of the third Macau-Taipa
bridge, December 2004 is a particularly important
month for Macau. In order to encourage participation
from the community, Macau Tower is organizing a photography
contest that features this myriad of celebrations.
Prize-winning pieces will be displayed in the Sky
Gallery for visitors' enjoyment.
More Excitement Ahead
Next year, Macau will be transforming at an even more
remarkable pace and will be bursting with excitement.
Apart from the annual International Fireworks Display
Contest and the Macau Grand Prix, East Asian Games
2005 will also take the centre stage along with the
launching of world-class entertainment and tourist
attractions. The city will be overflowing with fun
and energy, and Macau Tower is looking forward to
hosting photo exhibitions showcasing these important
developments at the Sky Gallery. Schools and organizations
will be invited to visit our newly launched facility
and become a part of these wonderful events.
Through the ever-growing collection
of photos and exhibitions in Sky Gallery, we hope
to extend a valuable platform for cultural exchanges
as well as art appreciation. Macau Tower will continue
to serve the community by extending full support towards
the promotion of such meaningful causes, bringing
into Macau unique and extraordinary entertainments
for all to enjoy.
