Grand Opening Ceremony Press Release

The Macau Tower Convention & Entertainment Centre was officially opened by Dr Stanley Ho, Managing Director of STDM, the owning company, and guest of honor Dr Edmond Ho, Chief Executive Officer, Macau Government SAR. Also present were Mr. Bai Zhijian, General Director, Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, Mr. Ma Man Kei, Vice-Chairman, Political Consultative Conference of the PRC, Mr. Yuan Tou, Comissario, Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the Macao SAR, Dr Chui Sai On, Secretary of Social and Cultural Affairs of Macau SAR and Ms Pansy Ho, Chairman of Shun Tak Management Services Group Limited yesterday (December 19, 2001).


Hundreds of guests, Consul General, trade commissioners, press and officials from Macau, Hong Kong and mainland China attended the Grand Opening Party in the Grand Hall. With a spectacular 8 minutes Sound and Light show the Tower was unveiled. The Opening Lighting Spectacular mounted for this opening by Vision Design Studio and TCP (Sydney), is a collaborative effort combining the skills and resources of a number of major theatrical lighting companies. The team is experienced in handling opening light shows in the region including the lighting for Sydney Olympics of Centrepoint Tower, Australia, Grand Opening light show of Twin Tower, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and lighting effects for the opening of Auckland Tower, New Zealand.


After the ceremony, guests assisted to a very special performance from the Gansu Theatre of Art (China) "Melodies of Live from Dunhuang". Two performances were staged at the new world class 500 seat Theatre on level 4 at the Macau Tower Convention & Entertainment Centre.


In addition, guests also took the opportunity to pre-view an exhibition of Chinese Maestros Ceramic and Calligraphy Artistry displayed in the new Exhibition Hall on level 2.


Guests however did not leave until they enjoyed the breathtaking panoramic views of the Pearl River in the Observation Lounge on top of the Tower, 223 meters above the ground.


Macau Tower is the 10th tallest freestanding tower in the world. The 338 m Tower anchoring four public levels of outlets including a revolving restaurant, a double-height Observation Lounge, and an outdoor observation deck. Along the Tower, the Convention & Entertainment Centre houses world class meeting and exhibition facilities as well as several theme restaurants and an upscale shopping floor. While the Outdoor Plaza features a children playground, a Lotus fountain, and a boardwalk along the seaside for all visitors to enjoy. The latest tourist spot of Macau is owned by Sociedade de Turismo e Diversoes de Macau, SARL, and managed by Shun Tak Management Services Group Limited.
