Macau
Tower:
The
region's most exciting new MICE venue
is also a unique tourist attraction
Macau Tower, soaring 338
meters above the city, is the 10th highest
freestanding tower in the world and
the 8th tallest in Asia. Inaugurated
on the second anniversary of Macau's
handover in December, 2001, the Tower,
owned by Sociedade de Turismo e Diversoes
de Macau (STDM) and operated by Shun
Tak Holdings, is more than just the
region's newest large-scale venue for
high end MICE events. It is also a stunning
leisure and tourism complex. Unlike
existing conference and exhibition sites
in Macau and elsewhere in the Asia Pacific
region, Macau Tower incorporates:
a unique venue with breathtaking
panoramic vistas
ample space for business and social
events
an entertainment and recreation
center, and
an upmarket retail area
An unforgettable experience
Three high-speed glass-fronted
lifts whisk visitors up to the outdoor
observation deck, with its outdoor cafe
and breathtaking views of the city,
the South China Sea, and the nearby
Pearl River Delta region from a height
of 233 meters. On the AJ Hackett Skywalk,
a unique Tower feature, spectators can
take a hair-raising stroll on a metal
grid 216 meters above the ground. Also
slated to begin operations is the Iron
Walk, also a product of the joint venture
between Macau Tower and AJ Hackett,
which, like the Skywalk, boasts a 100%
safety record over all installations
worldwide.
Everything for an event
in one place
The 338-meter tall tower,
built at a cost of more than one billion
Hong Kong dollars, can accommodate a
wide variety of events, and conference
attendees have a rich variety of after-hours
leisure and dining opportunities close
at hand before, after, and during meetings:
meeting halls ranging from 252 square
meters to nearly 2,000 square meters
in size for events such as conferences,
corporate meetings, and training seminars,
a 500-seat theater equipped for
cinema screenings with hydraulically
operated orchestra pit that can host
even the most spectacular productions.
the outdoor plaza, a family-style
attraction with a 13-meter handcrafted
carousel and historic caravel, a scale
replica of a pirate ship, complete
with cannon and treasure aboard to
delight the young at heart.
a variety of restaurants, including
the 360 Cafe revolving restaurant
and al fresco waterfront cafe, and
others offering Japanese, Chinese,
Portuguese and international cuisine.
Transport and accommodation
for groups conveniently arranged
In addition to planning
and making in-house arrangements for
events, Tower staff can coordinate directly
with their colleagues at STDM and Shun
Tak Holdings sister companies to provide
contacts for hotel and transportation
bookings directly or to offer lists
of available hotels and transportation
links. This means meeting planners can
quickly and easily finalize details
for upcoming events with a minimum of
contacts.
The very best of Macau
SAR
The Tower not only offers
planners capacious indoor areas for
conferences, exhibitions, and seminars
with state-of-the-art audio-visual and
other technical facilities and in-house
catering; it also showcases the best
Macau has to offer.
Some of the city's oldest
and most beautiful landmarks in the
historic Barra section are just a short
walk from the complex, and now can be
seen from the Tower complex from an
entirely new vantage point. Public transportation
is easily accessible at the main entrance,
with quick connections to all parts
of the city.
One example of the creative
possibilities the Tower offers to event
planners was a fashion show held by
Chanel Hong Kong in the Plaza for 900
invited guests shortly after the Tower's
opening. Catwalks were set up on the
waterfront Plaza, the entire base of
the structure was wrapped by decorators,
assisted by local craftsmen and workers
recruited by Tower staff. Local caterers
were on hand to ensure the complete
success of this unique event.
